Grand Design's dam, Elite St Pr St Sira, is the dam of three Weser-Ems Champion Mares (St Pr St Syrah, St Pr St Shakyrah and St Pr St Sophie), as well as many other outstanding sport ponies, including the stallion Daimler (by Der Feine Lord) and the mare Shanyah (by Vulkan).

Sira has produced three highly successful mares, all by different stallions. Syrah (by Morbidelli) was Champion Mare of Weser-Ems in 2001, won the National Mare Show and is the dam of the Weser-Ems Stallion Licensing Champion 2005, Hilken's Black Delight. She was Reserve Champion of her mare performance test behind her half sister Sophie, and was 4th at the National Pony Mare Show. In 2004 Syrah was the winner of the Weser-Ems Eventing Championships. Sophie (by Dressman) won her mare performance test, was Champion Mare of Weser-Ems in 2002, and 4th in the Bundeschampionat. Shakyrah (by Branduardi M) was Champion Mare of Weser-Ems in 2005.

Grand Design's sire is FS Golden Moonlight, a stunning 143 cm (14hh) palomino son of Golden Dancer.  He was champion of his licensing in 1994, Vice Bundeschampion in 1996 and Bundeschampion of the 5-year-old dressage ponies in 1997. He had 15 successive victories in dressage classes A and L.

In three years of covering, Golden Moonlight produced 10 State Premium mares and 8 licensed sons. He is renowned for passing on his rideability and suitability for children's ponies.  His full sister, FS Golden Sunlight, is the dam of the famous FS Don't Worry.
